TOUGH TALK SEPTEMBER 26TH

After a break for the summer Onside returns with a meeting in partnership with the churches of Chapletown which sees the men of Tough Talk visiting S6. http://www.tough-talk.com/

Tough Talk is made up of a group of men with backgrounds of ex-hard men from the East End of London, ex-bouncers, ex- debt collectors,ex-drug abusers and ex-violent men who, having let God into their lives, have turned their backs on their past. They now feel an urgent need to share their experiences with the hope of helping others.

They have found that the message of hope in Jesus Christ reaches people from all backgrounds and age groups.Powerlifting is the sport that they are all involved in.

The team travel throughout the UK, Europe and worldwide performing powerlifting demonstrations as a backdrop to telling their amazing stories. In this way, the Christian faith is presented to people who would not otherwise come into contact with the Word of God.

Onside in the New Year

ONSIDE FEBRUARY 6th 2009 The Bishop of Grantham

Tim Ellis, 52, is a season ticket-holder at Sheffield Wednesday and has worn his earring since he was 18.

He may not conform to the traditional stereotype of a bishop, but he says people have got used to his individual style during his previous work in the county.

Dr Ellis said: "I had the earring put in when I was 18. It's become part of me and people regard it as part of my personality. I literally never take it off.

"The interesting thing is most people don't react to it at all. It's actually people outside the church who find it surprising and, surprisingly, young people too.

"I also wear a Make Poverty History bracelet, which makes a very serious point about the poor of the world. We have the wherewithal and power to rid the world of poverty and starvation and hunger.

"Of the two pieces of jewellery I wear, that is the one I'd like people to focus on."

Dr Ellis said: "Our churches are largely empty of young people at the moment, but they are our lifeblood and can stir us into new life. We have much to learn about life from the young.

"I hope we can help the Church of England in south Lincolnshire into the premier league."

November Onside

Future Onside Speakers

Friday 28th November Nick Battle

Nick’s high flying career over the past thirty years in the music industry has

seen him introduce the Spice Girls to their music publishers, co-write songs

with Gary Barlow from Take That and work with Simon Cowell.

In fact it is perhaps easier to list the people he hasn’t worked with!

He has by Gods grace endured great tragedy and through the good

times and the bad Nick has always held on to his Christian

faith it sustained him through his darkest days when he lost his wife

to breast cancer and was left with two young daughters to raise.

Nick is passionate about three things.... Jesus, his family and the written

word.

He has been called a mogul, an impresario and an entrepreneur.

None of which impresses him.

What he does care for, are people who have lost loved ones especially if they

have young families. Young musicians, worship leaders and songwriters.

And most important of all…. ‘The Lost’, who don’t yet know Jesus.

He is a mans man who will frequently call a spade a shovel, and yet women

also like him for his sensitivity.

At the encouragement of his friend and mentor J John he has founded Gravel

Road Ministries and he hopes to pursue this calling through writing books,

articles for newspapers and magazines and speaking anywhere God wants to

take him.

He lives in Chorleywood, Hertfordshire with his wife Nicky, daughters Misha

& Jodie, son Jesse and his dog Max.

Nick is an Associate of The Philo Trust and is published by Authentic Media.

His new book , ‘The Daily Male’, is due for release in August this year.
